COA-M (Courses Of Action Medical)

COA-M (MEDICAL) is taught by Billy a current Special Forces 18D that maintains all certifications and is the owner of Rescue Reflex. This course is geared toward educators, public service workers, and citizens that want to be prepared for a crisis event (not only active shooter events, but vehicle crashes, accidents, and other unexpected traumatic events).

The Hartford Consensus Group recommends that the response to a traumatic incident, whether involving an active shooter or some other cause of injury, in fact begins with bystander response. It is with this in mind that this course was developed and is now being offered.  B-Con (bleeding control) is consistent with the recommendations of the Hartford Consensus on Improving Survival from Active Shooter Events.

This new 8 hour course teaches participants life-saving medical interventions and instills in the student the confidence and skillset to respond immediately and appropriately.

Upon completion of the course, participants will, at a minimum, be able to:

  • Properly and effectively assess the trauma patient.
  • Explain the rationale for early use of a tourniquet for life-threatening extremity bleeding.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate application of a tourniquet to the arm and leg.
  • Describe the progressive strategy for controlling hemorrhage.
  • Utilize appropriate airway control techniques and devices.
  • Explain the rationale for, and display appropriate patient positioning.
  • Demonstrate the correct application of a hemostatic dressing (combat gauze).
  • Demonstrate the proper way to pack a wound.
  • Describe and display appropriate treatment of non-compressible wounds (junctional wounds)
  • Demonstrate the proper interventions concerning a thoracic injury.
